Parents need brave and gracious space to discuss the challenges of parenting during this time of racial unrest. Some parents/caregivers mention “the talk” that they must have with their children about living in an unjust world and feeling that they are taking away their child’s innocence. It is critical that parents/caregivers are equipped with skills and tools to discuss racial stress and trauma, while offering hope and healing to their
Participants will be able to:
– Define racial trauma and its effects on children and youth of color,
– Identify strategies to assist children and youth of color in coping with
racial stress and trauma; and
– List strategies for having “the talk” with children and youth.
