Webinar: 08/14/20 Know Thyself: Cultivating Cultural Humility

Racial Equity Professional Learning and Community Parenting Sessions

Know Thyself: Cultivating Cultural Humility Friday, August 14, 2020, 1:30 - 3:30 p.m.

Along with disparate outcomes for communities of color due to COVID-19, there is heightened racial unrest as a result of the horrific deaths of Armaud Arbery, Breonna Taylor, George Floyd, and many others. It is critical that communities acknowledge and confront racial trauma and examine biases in brave and gracious spaces through the lens of cultural humility. Participants will explore their ethnic identity development, racial socialization, implicit/explicit bias, and strategies to mitigate bias and promote anti-racism.

Participants will be able to:
– Describe their racial identity development and racial socialization processes;
– Define cultural humility and strategies to actualize the three elements of
cultural humility;
– Distinguish between implicit and explicit bias; and
– List strategies to manage bias and identify personal steps for change in moving
towards anti-racism.
